Maciej Kaproń
Born 16.06.1994 in Cracow, is a student of the fourth year of the Doctoral School at the Pedagogical University named after the Commission of National Education, where he is preparing a dissertation, “The First Rotation of the Polish Military Special Unit of the United Nations Emergency Force in the Middle East in 1973-1974,” under the supervision of Professor Marek Herma in the discipline of history. His main field of interest is the political and military history of the Cold War period. He received his bachelor’s degree in 2016 from UP, defending his thesis entitled. “The Korean War in the Perception of the Polish and American Press 1950-1953,” written under the supervision of Professor Piotr Mikietyński, while he received his master’s degree from the same university in 2018 defending a thesis titled. “Arab-Israeli Wars from the War of Israeli Independence to the Intervention in Lebanon in the Light of the Polish Press.” Written under the supervision of Professor Michał Baczkowski. During his studies at the Jagiellonian University, the doctoral student was active in the Scientific Circle of Student Historians of the Jagiellonian University, publishing his texts in the Circle’s journal entitled. “Societas Historicorum”, engaging in the organization of the Festival of Science and taking part in such conferences as Gunpowder against spears – non-European militarism through the ages” (1-2 VI 2018, Poznań, Congo Stories – civil war in the Congo in the memoirs of Polish mercenaries Jan Zumbach and Rafał Gan-Ganowicz), XVI All-Polish Conference of Historians of Military Students (23-25 XI 2018, Poznań, The manner of presenting the PLO’s activities as a liberation struggle in the Trybuna Ludu during the civil war in Lebanon from 1975 to the evacuation of the organization from Lebanon and the slaughter of Sabra and Shatila) or the VI Krakow Conference of Historian Students (1-3 March 2018, Krakow, Day of Reconciliation, Day of Judgment – Yom Kippur War in the light of the press of the People’s Republic of Poland on the examples of the Trybuna Ludu, Polityka and Tygodnik Powszechny). During his studies at the Doctoral School, the doctoral student researched his dissertation topic in the Middle East by conducting archival searches at the Central Military Archives – Military Historical Office, the Archives of New Records and the Archives of the Institute of National Remembrance, as well as by interviewing participants in the events under study. The doctoral student also conducted a search at the Archives of the United Nations using funding from the PROM Program in July and August 2022. During the research within the framework of the Doctoral School, the doctoral student held a research internship at the Institute of National Remembrance and participated in scientific conferences such as:

The doctoral student continues his research and develops his interests which include learning foreign languages (English, Russian and Spanish), swimming and fantasy literature.
He submitted a doctoral thesis entitled „Pierwsza zmiana Polskiej Wojskowej Jednostki Specjalnej Doraźnych Sił Zbrojnych ONZ na Bliskim Wschodzie w latach 1973 – 1974”
