International Weekend School for Doctoral Candidates

We invite all interested doctoral candidates to take part in our intensive international Weekend School, which will be held at the Pedagogical University of Krakow (ul. Podchorążych 2, Krakow) on December 2-3, 2022. Participants will receive a NAWA-affiliated certificate of completion. The registration for this free event is open until Tuesday, November 29. The number of places is limited, the registration date will be the only criterion of selection. 

Instructors

Sandrine Soubesholds a PhD in Molecular Biology and a Doctorate in Education. She worked as a research scientist in the USA (at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland) and the UK (The University of Sheffield). Since leaving the laboratory in 2003, she has worked as a researcher developer and instigated many engaging initiatives that support research leadership and networks. She was a founding member and instrumental contributor of the Think Ahead team, which won a UK national award, the 2014 Times Higher Education Award for Outstanding support for early career researchers. She works as a trainer, coach, facilitator, professional development programme designer and evaluator for the research environment. She is founder of Tesselle Development.

Dr Nele Bracke is a senior research policy advisor at Ghent University’s Research Department. Her main areas of interest are human resources (HR) for researchers, research culture and research evaluation. Together with a colleague in the HR Department, she co-ordinates the Human Resources Strategy for Researchers (HRS4R). She is also one of the university’s research integrity trainers. From 2007 until 2018, she worked for the Doctoral Schools Office, as policy advisor for doctoral affairs and training manager of the transferable skills programme for PhD candidates. Before joining the Research Department, Dr Nele Bracke worked as a researcher and lecturer in the History Department.

Jamie McDonald holds a PhD in Environmental Entomology and Ecology from the University of Birmingham. He has been working with universities across the UK and Europe since 2000, and now delivers programmes to staff ranging from the executive to academic, from researchers and postgraduates to undergraduates and non-academic staff. He has been a regular Tutor and Director for local, National and international Grad Schools, a director and facilitator of Vitae programmes, and have contributed to development programmes at over 25 Universities across the UK and Europe. His approach is grounded in learning from experience and applying that learning to people’s real situations.
